I spent time in May of 2020 going to high schools in Metro Detroit doing portraits of seniors for a Detroit Free Press special section that we published.

The coronavirus pandemic changed things dramatically for the Class of 2020, and some metro Detroit high school seniors had strong feelings about what they missed out on.

They also have an abundance of pride in their accomplishments, their high schools and their plans for the future.”

Kyra Newman, a senior at Ferndale High School in Farmington, Michigan on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

Newman will be attending the University of Michigan and majoring in Political Science with a minor in Spanish.

Bugay was homeschooled by her mother Kristi Bugay.

She will be attending Oakland Community College and majoring in the college's 911 dispatch program.

Parker McFarlen, a senior at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan on Wednesday May 6, 2020.

McFarlen will be attending Western Michigan University and pursuing Musical Performance on the tuba.

Aniyah Stokes, a senior at Harrison-Farmington High School in Farmington, Michigan on May 8, 2020.

Stokes will be attending Princeton University and majoring in Sociology.

Nasr Abdulla, a senior at Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Michigan on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

Abdulla will be attending Henry Ford Community College majoring in Psychology.
